Plenty of predictions
Journalists everywhere are polishing their crystal ball and making predictions for the ag sector in 2025. Here’s a few of them:
- The Guardian Australia expect environmental regulations, national political fights, the impact of the Trump administration, production costs and worker shortages to shape the year ahead.
- The Australian Financial Review predicts a bumper year for beef and calls wheat ‘the crop to watch’, but warns of tough times ahead for dairy and wool. (Subcriber Content)
- Global AgTech Initiative see innovations on the horizon for regenerative agriculture, saying AI-powered data insights, bio-solutions, and digital twins will lead the way.
- Tech Informed, meanwhile, had their ear to the ground at CES 2025 in Las Vegas this month. ‘AI is plowing ahead’ across the industry, with Japanese company Kubota and John Deere both showcasing new AI-driven solutions.
Funding opportunities
- The On Farm Connectivity Program has recieved a $20m boost with Round 3 applications set to open later this year, and grant funding to be delivered into 2026. Keep an eye out for changes to grant guidelines, which are under review to ‘optimise opportunities for farmers and to best address the connectivity gaps.’
- Drought Venture Studio is a two-year government funded program that provides hands-on support to early stage innovators with ideas to boost drought resilience. Four innovators have already been announced to showcase their ideas at EvokeAg, taking place in Brisbane, Queensland on 18-19 February.

- The results from Roy Morgan’s Farmer AgTech Survey for 2024 have been released, and they found 89% of Australian farmers are currently using AgTech. Does that include you?
- Meanwhile, in the US, Ag Equipment Intelligence’s annual survey explores brand loyalty and reveals the reasons farmers are increasingly shopping around for the right solutions.
