Plexus is an on-farm network enabling the collection of soil and weather data from multiple sites across a property. Data collected by Plexus field stations is transmitted (using zigbee) to a 4G enabled hub for transmission to Green Brain, MEA's data presentation web app. Field stations have a 1km range and double as repeaters which allows an extensive coverage. Each field station accepts two sensors, usually soil moisture sensors but also temperature, humidity, rainfall, water level and water pressure.
Hardware prices vary according to the application. A typical five site soil moisture monitoring system deployed in vine or tree crops would cost A$10,000 in hardware, plus installation dependent on location plus A$350 per year subscription fees for access to Green Brain.
Plexus is installed by MEA or its agent.
Plexus field stations and hub are solar and battery powered and are maintenance free. Soil moisture sensors which connect to the field stations are sourced from other manufacturers and carry five year warranties. Other sensors such as rain gauges must be kept clean but are otherwise maintenance free. MEA's service technicians provide phone support and field staff carry out on-farm installation and repairs as necessary.

Data collected by the measurement systems is delivered to the customer's account in Green Brain. The customer has complete autonomy over the data in that account and may share it with third parties if that is desired.
