The PI System is a suite of software products that are used for data collection, historicizing, finding, analyzing, delivering, and visualizing. It is marketed as an enterprise infrastructure for management of real-time data and events. The term PI System is often used to refer to the PI Server but the two are not the same. The PI System refers to all OSIsoft software products whereas the PI Server is the core product of the PI System.
Data can be automatically collected from many sources (control systems, lab equipment, calculations, manual entry or custom software). Most information is gathered using one of the many OSIsoft and third party PI Interfaces. Users can then access this information using a common set of tools (such as Microsoft Excel, web browser or PI ProcessBook) and look for correlations.
Enter the PI System and its ability to collect, analyze, visualize and share large amounts of high-fidelity, time-series data from multiple sources to people and systems across all operations. By accessing key data and insights, the PI System has helped leading companies deliver greater operational improvements and breakthroughs that lead ultimately to comprehensive business transformation.
With the PI System, OSIsoft customers have reduced costs, opened new revenue streams, extended equipment life, increased production capacity, and more. These customers prove that getting the right data at the right time to the right person unleashes tremendous innovation and value.
Pricing model | The PI System can be priced in two ways. The first is based on the amount of data or tags that are used. Each individual piece of data is a tag, for example. This allows a customer to purchase only what is needed and get started with a small number. The second way is for a customer to purchase an enterprise agreement that would include an unlimited number of tags. This way would allow the customer to collect and analyze a large amount of data. |
